A coffee chain that specialises in outlets at transport hubs is brewing up high growth expansion plans, opening their first stand alone store in the heart of Newport.

Hi Coffee, the brainchild of 26-year-old entrepreneur Jonathan Hill, opened its first outlet on platform 4 of Newport Train Station three years ago.

And in its first non transport hub location, it will open a new venue this week at the riverfront City Vizion development in Newport.

And as part of a major expansion over the next 12 to 18 months it will open outlets in October at Newport Bus Station and Plymouth Coach Station, followed in November by one at Port Talbot Parkway rail station.

And next year it will expand into North Wales, including at Flint, Colwyn Bay and Llandudno train stations.

Its new venue in Newport, has now opened and will is the first of a new concept that will offer a late night cafe experience and also include a selection of wines and beers for sale.

Hi Coffee also sell a range of food ranging from flatbreads, pies and pizzas.

Mr Hill, managing director of Hi Coffee, said: “We have been working hard to develop our brand and offering over the past three years and have come on a long way since we began. It offers a unique continental feel that differs from most coffee chains and stores. The dramatic, yet simplistic interior is bold and bright and allows people gatherings to function right through into the night.

"Although it remains a strong intention of ours to continue to roll out our national presence throughout rail and travel hubs in Wales, particularly with our marked expansion into North Wales stations next year, it has been a strong desire of ours to branch away from the railway line.

"Hi Coffee will form part of the changing cityscape that Newport has embarked on and to help kick start the city's riverside cafe culture.”

You'll also be seeing Hi Coffee open in the recently opened Friars Walk Bus Station later this year with a brand new express store, perfect for the city's commuters.
