If you or anyone in your family loves trains, why not take a trip to Voice’s Family Day Out of the Month, Brecon Mountain Railway.

As you travel behind a vintage steam locomotive in one of its all-weather observation coaches, you can admire the beautiful scenic views of the Welsh countryside that the Brecon Beacons National Park has to offer during this 10-mile journey.

After departing from the main station at Pant, the locomotive travels past Pontsticill station where it then runs alongside the Taf Fechan reservoir with its stunning views.

The railway then climbs steeply to Torpantau, high in the Brecon Beacons, where the train stops for a short time before returning to the station at Pontsticill.

The train stops here long enough for you to visit the small steam museum (free entry), lakeside café, children’s play area or just to enjoy
the views.

There are plenty of leisurely walks around the reservoir, which you can take yourtime and enjoy by returning on a later train. On your return to Pant station, you can visit the train workshop where you find old steam
locomotives being restored and new ones being built, and if you want a memento or keepsake of your day make sure you pop into the gift shop where you’ll find lots of treats for all ages.

Finally, enjoy some light refreshments within the licensed tearooms – a perfect end to the day. Brecon Mountain Railway has facilities for disabled passengers including ramps, toilets and a carriage for wheelchairs.

Dogs are welcome to join you on the train for a small charge. There are also reduced fares for large groups and school parties, perfect for special
events and children’s birthday parties.

Throughout the year there are special events running including visits from the Easter bunny and during the festive period, people travel from
far and wide to take a trip on its very popular Santa special trains, where you travel by steam to meet Father Christmas at his grotto.

Why not come and enjoy the sights and sounds of days gone by, located just off the heads of the valley road, about three miles north of Merthyr Tydfil.

Follow the mountain railway signs from the A470 and A465 – there’s plenty of free car parking adjacent to the Pant station.
