This term Caerleon Comprehensive School has much to celebrate. A-level students attained outstanding scores with one student earning her place at Cambridge to read Engineering.

A-level attainment at Caerleon is now placed in the top quartile of performance for the majority of subjects when compared with other schools in England and Wales. In fact, 94% of last year’s Year 13 have taken up university places with 52% of these gaining places at Sutton 30 universities: which is a school record.

Year 11 students attained an awe-inspiring set of results in their summer examinations. It took a lot of dedication and hard work and these young people deserve their success. GCSE results this year are the best in the school’s history:

• English Language results surpassed the previous best with a remarkable 86%;
•Maths results smashed through the previous ceiling to attain an unsurpassed 87%;
• Science results broke all previous records with an impressive 87%;
• One in three of our students attained at least 5A* to A grades: an exceptional achievement. These amazing core subject results were accompanied by remarkable options subject grades.

This has resulted in the school attaining 81% with regards to the crucial measure of five GCSEs, including English Language and maths.

Delighted with the results, headteacher Lana Picton was keen to share her feelings: “These scores have opened so many doors for our young people who have proved that they are reliable, resilient, capable and hardworking individuals and we are really proud of their achievements. I’ve been so impressed by the talent and drive of the students, the dedication of the staff and the engagement of parents and carers”.

Expectations at Caerleon Comprehensive School are high and the message is clear: every member of the school community is expected to give their very best effort.

This is a community-centred school committed to providing an individual, personalised learning pathway for every student, encouraging and nurturing independence and creating opportunities for all learners to take the initiative in guiding their own experience of school.

As well as achieving excellent academic results, the school’s sports teams are consistently successful at a national level and music is a particular strength. Extra-curricular activities are an important, enjoyable element of school life.

Parents will soon be asked to select a senior school for their children for September 2018. The Open Evening at Caerleon Comprehensive School is a great opportunity for all prospective students and their parents to see what they have to offer.
