Heart Research UK and the Subway® brand are bringing their ever popular fun run series back to Newport on Sunday July 1.

The Subway Helping Hearts™ Family 5K fun run will take place at 12pm in Tredegar Park. Last year’s run which saw over 2,000 amateur runners take part.

The 5K series takes a twist on the traditional 5K run by including the Field of Fresh challenge, which is a giant, inflatable obstacle course inspired by the Subway® stores menu which you can enter at the 4.5K mark.

Designed to appeal to adults and kids alike, those not wishing to bounce through to the finish line can follow the traditional 5K route.

The family fun doesn’t just end at the finish line. Families can also relax in the Family Village, open from 10.30am, which features free entertainment

for the whole family to enjoy, including free facepainting, music and fun games for children.

Children under 12-years-old can participate for free, with everyone else paying just £8 online if they register in advance or £10 on the day.

This includes a free T-shirt, a free lunch from Subway® stores, a finisher’s medal and access to the Family Village which will host all the entertainment.

All sponsorship money raised by runners goes towards the Heart Research UK and Subway® Healthy Heart Grant scheme. This initiative provides up to £10,000 each to local projects across the UK, including in Wales, that actively promotes helping heart health in the community.

The day will also feature Subway® partner NFL. They will be teaching participants the basics of flag football as part of their NFL Flag Presented by Subway® programme. Teachers and school staff can request for NFL Flag to be brought to their school by filling out a registration form at www.nfluk.com/events/subway-schools.html.

Sacha Clark, marketing director for the Subway® brand in UK and Ireland, said: “We are delighted to announce that the Subway Helping Hearts™ Family 5K series is returning for 2018, in aid of our partner Heart Research UK.
