The Rotary Club of Newport and Gwent Music present a Christmas concert for Newport with surprise special festive guests.

On Sunday, December 13, at 5.30pm, the Newport Centre will host a Christmas concert performed by Gwent Music and supported by the South Wales Argus, Newport City Council and the Rotary Club of St Woolos, Newport.

A special selection of musical delights including seasonal film favourites and festive choices will be performed by students of Gwent Music, who are already busily rehearsing. Newport Music Centre’s Wind Band, Big Band, Isca Linea String Orchestra, Greater Gwent Youth Orchestra and a massed choir will all be performing, so the concert promises to be full of the young talent that the organisation teaches and encourages in its classes and group meetings.

For Gwent Music, this evening is the culmination of each of its events leading up to Christmas. It is annually booked to perform festive favourites in shopping centres and for other public appearances around south east Wales.

Additionally, its Music Centres, where Gwent Music students gather together on a weekly basis to meet, practice and innovate new styles and ensembles, each have their own individual Christmas concerts where parents, carers, relatives and local communities witness the students’ progress first hand.

Prior to the concert, Gwent Music will be running a competition to win a term’s worth of music tuition.

Christmas cards will be distributed to pupils who will be encouraged to write a Christmas message to Gwent Music on the website and a winner will be randomly selected and announced during the interval of the Christmas Extravaganza.

The Rotary Club of St Woolos, Newport and Gwent Music have produced their Christmas Extravaganza for 29 years and this year promises to be even more exciting as it will also feature special surprise festive guest appearances.

The evening promises to be exceptionally festive and a great way to end a brilliant term’s work. Our students are so committed to practising and their parents or carers are incredibly supportive with ferrying to and fro. It is always a real joy to see the sense of achievement and happiness that comes from this performance and I can’t wait to see it!”
