Over the last few years Newport has undergone some major changes to its landscape, none more so than the transformation of Newport City Homes’ (NCH) three tower blocks.

The 11-storey city landmarks have benefited from a £12.5m Welsh Housing Quality Standard investment programme by the local housing association.

Before work began, NCH employed Resident Liaison Officers to consult with the residents of the blocks through group meetings, open days and one to one home visits.  Early in the process a resident communications group was formed to help keep everyone up to date with the project.  The group was responsible for putting together the Hi Hopes newsletter that was received on a regular basis by all residents throughout the lifespan of the project.

Each flat has benefited from a new kitchen, bathroom, double glazing, heating system and re-wire.  The outside of the blocks have received an energy efficient facelift in the form of insulated aluminium cladding panels.

The work has been carried out by main contractor Wates Living Space, which has won Considerate Contractor awards for its work on the Greenwood and Milton Court blocks.

Work is nearing completion on Greenwood and Milton Court and is due to conclude at Hillview in May 2015.
