The hotel, once called the King’s Head, started off as a small coaching inn and over the years became popular for weddings and conferences.

Situated on High Street, Newport, The King’s once had a thriving public bar, called the Raglan Bar, but this was lost in a refurbishment some years ago. It has also been a popular music venue and hosted concerts by singers such as Van Morrison in its ballroom in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

This piece of Newport’s entertainment and hospitality history is now being lovingly restored and converted into 34 luxury one- and two-bedroom apartments.

The development of this historic building is being undertaken by Imperial, the same team which converted Shire Hall, Newport, and The Lansdowne and Russell Court in Cardiff.

Sam from Imperial told Voice a little more about the redevelopment.
“Kings Court Newport is a stunning development of one- and two-bedroom apartments in an iconic landmark of the city that overlooks the Monument Castle, located in the middle of the shopping district and cafe quarter,” said Sam.
“The Kings is no ordinary project and we wanted to pack it with extra features that you wouldn’t ordinarily find in this price bracket. We wanted the Kings to stand out from the crowd.
“Our developments are known for their high quality and well-considered design – The Kings is no different. Each apartment has been carefully designed to maximise on space and functionality with tailored, individual features.
“We have included in each property dedicated ultra-fast broadband connections – allowing download and upload speeds of up to 100Mbps.
“Apartments start from £79,000, and we offer a variety of different size flats to suit your living needs and specifications. You can view the floor plans on our website to see what we have available.”
