Newport Live has unveiled amazing new indoor group cycling facilities at Wales National Velodrome and Newport Centre, and they want you to come and experience them!

Many people are put off group cycling classes, but they offer amazing benefits, whatever your health and fitness goals! If you’ve ever been in a class where you feel like you can’t keep up (or maybe you’re so fit you leave feeling like you haven’t worked hard enough), read on!

The new indoor group cycling studio at Wales National Velodrome is now open, and it’s home to 40 brand new award-winning Tomahawk IC7
bikes which will take your workout to the nextlevel with Coach by Color® and Myride®. The brand-new BOSE sound system will keep you on track with great tunes and motivation from the instructors, and you can also download an ICG Training app which you can pair to your bike and track your workouts and progress!

Get in the zone
Coach by Color® gives you personal training but in a group setting, which is perfect if you want to take a buddy for moral support or to compete against! Before taking part in a class, you simply complete a short fitness test which will determine your individual, bespoke level, then you’re ready to ride! Classes are either instructor-led or virtual (more on that later!), but whatever you choose you will always be guided by the voice of a coach, who will take you on a High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) journey and will tell you what colour zones you need to be in throughout the class. The colours match five different zones – from very light (white) to maximum (red), and this is where the personal training element comes in! Your red level might be very different to the person next to you, but you will work to your maximum level, not someone else’s – so it’s a perfect workout whatever your fitness level.

Go virtual
The IC7 bikes also haveMyride® technology installed, so you can take part in virtual classes lasting either 30 or 50 minutes. As well as studio based classes with a virtual instructor on the big screen, you can also attend tour classes, where you’ll go on a virtual ride in a different destination in each class, including the streets of Sydney, Australia and the mountains of Patagonia!

Newport Centre
Over at Newport Centre, the Heroes Studio has been given a makeover too! All of the bikes have been replaced with fantastic Technogym kit,
there’s a stage so you can see the instructor and follow their expert instruction, and there are also more classes to choose from!
Classes at all Newport Live venues can fill up quickly, so booking is advisable to guarantee your space!

Benefits of indoor cycling
Forget all the rumours you may have heard about indoor group cycling being too hard for non-cyclists or those still working on their fitness!

1. It’s low impact! People recovering from injuries are often encouraged to take part in classes by their physios. If cycling is done correctly, there is minimal impact on the hip, knee, and ankle joints. If you have any injuries, just let the instructor know before you take part and they will make sure you’re set up correctly.

2. It releases endorphins, which can create wonderful feelings of euphoria, lower stress levels, and enhance the body’s immune response.

3. It burns calories and increases cardiovascular and muscular fitness! Classes use High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) and training against resistance (think of those hill climbs!) to give you a fantastic workout that will help improve your overall fitness and smash your goals!

4. It’s quick! If you struggle to make time to exercise, indoor group cycling is perfect. Newport Live has classes that last 30 or 50 minutes, so if you’re in a hurry you can still get a great workout.
