Newport Playgoers have taken one of Shakespeare's most popular early plays, ‘As You Like It’ and updated this comic tale of pastoral romance to the 1980s and made it easily accessible to modern audiences of all ages.

The play, which explores themes about life and love, see the heroes and heroines forced to leave the city and retreat to the Forest of Arden where they learn the simple values of rustic life.

The heroine, Rosalind, is one of the Bard’s most inspiring characters with more lines than any of Shakespeare's female characters. Banished from the royal court, she pretends to be a boy and travels with her cousin Celia and the jester Touchstone to join her father and his friends in exile – and be reunited with her true love, Orlando.

‘As You Like It’ is at the Dolman Theatre from Tuesday 12th – Friday 15th January at 7.15 pm, with a matinee performance on Saturday 16th at 2.30 pm. To book tickets call 01633 263670 or visit www.dolmantheatre.co.uk.
