Break N’ Dish is Voice’s Vibrant Venue of the Month, and also Newport’s newest and only snooker and pool club.

Located in the old Basement club on Stow Hill, new owner Dave Barton has spared no expense in refurbishing and fitting-out this member’s only club with two snooker tables, eight pool tables and one American nine-ball table. It also has a new kitchen and well-stocked bar so that members can enjoy a social drink and great tasting, homemade food, while practicing or playing in league matches or tournaments.

The venue also has numerous flat screen TVs showing the very best in sporting events which Sky and BT have to offer.
“Since Riley’s closed there was nowhere in Newport for people to practice and play snooker and pool,” said Dave.
“The Basement came on the market and I felt that it would make for the perfect place to set up some tables for people to come and play, as it’s located in the centre of city.
“We’ve already had a lot of interest to hold events and matches here, with Newport and District Pool League playing here every Sunday, Newport and District Snooker League playing here on Saturdays, and also Cwmbran Pool League playing here on Wednesdays.
“In addition to that, we’ve been approached to host the Welsh Under 15s, 18s, and 23s tour here too.
“Food and drink will play a major part here at Break N’ Dish, offering a selection
of homemade burgers and pizzas, which is what we hope to be renowned for. We will also have great meal deals where you can get special themed food and a drink at a great value-for-money price.”

Luke Sanges, aged 19, world champion pool player regularly practices at Break N’ Dish and told Voice: “I first started playing when I was 11 or 12, my stepfather took me to our local pub and we played pool in the lounge.
“Break N’ Dish is great for youngsters who want to learn a sport, not only that it keeps them off the streets doing something positive with their time.
“Membership for under 16s is £5 for the year, which is a fantastic price, and
only £10 for adults.
“It’s key card entry, so you can feel safe that not any-old-idiot or drunk is going to walk in off the street.
“All abilities are welcome, and we’re also looking for players to join new teams.
We also have disabled access and are wheelchair friendly.
“So if you think you’re good at pool or snooker, or would like to learn the game, come and try us out at Break N’ Dish – everyone is more than welcome!”
