Christmas at Chapter means a packed and diverse programme of theatre, film and events across the festive period.

At the heart of Chapter’s Christmas programme is a new musical theatre production of Charles Dickens’s satire The Chimes, which is written by David Willis, composed by Conor Linehan, and directed and produced by Judith Roberts in partnership with Chapter.

The Chimes will combine a cast of eight professional actors with ensemble companies drawn from homeless communities in Cardiff and London, and will be staged site-specifically in St John’s Church in Canton (December 7-16) and St John’s Church in Waterloo, London (December 19-30).

Dirty Protest return to Chapter with a brand new Christmas drama, Cut and Run by Branwen Davies (December 20-23). As the invitation to come home for Christmas hangs awkwardly unanswered in the air, Caitlin does what she does best – travels a million miles in the opposite direction. As the plane touches the tarmac far from home it’s not just the mosquitoes that bite. Tinsel, Texan tourists and the turned up ticking of a biological clock makes this a Christmas to remember!

For younger audiences and their families, Likely Story Theatre bring their unique story telling style to classic Norwegian fairy tale, The Giant Who Had No Heart in His Body (December 20-23). With original music, puppetry and a sprinkling of magic, this story tells more than just the heroic deeds of princes and princesses, of giants and big bad wolves, but of facing your fears, becoming your own hero and finding your courage.

As well as live performance, there is Chapter’s usual great selection of films, including It’s a Wonderful Life, White Christmas, Muppets Christmas Carol, Gremlins (including a Q&A with actor Zach Galligan on December 6) and Bad Film Club’s Xmas Double Bill of The Christmas Candle and Black Christmas. Chapter will also play host to lots of other seasonal events. The Oh So Crafty Christmas Fair on December 2 and 3 will be crammed with jewellery, textiles, ceramics and homeware and promises to be the ideal place to pick up some unique and handmade Christmas gifts.

The Festive Food Fair on December 10 will be the time to stock up on gorgeous chocolates, tasty cheese and delicious meats, and family activities and workshops will be available in the Green Grotto.

The Box Office and Shop will be selling a wide selection of gifts, gift vouchers and cards from local designers – perfect for those stocking fillers and last minute presents. Chapter’s café will also be serving Christmas specials throughout the festive period, with a two-course festive menu available from November 24.
