A 50-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of a woman aged 35, police have announced.
The two “were known to each other”, Scotland Yard said.
It means the number of homicides in London so far this year is now 118, matching the total in the whole of 2017.
Police were called to a disturbance at an address in east London at 7.40am on Monday morning and found the woman suffering from an injury to her stomach.
She was pronounced dead in hospital at 11am.
The man was arrested at the scene in Applegarth Drive in Ilford on suspicion of attempted murder.
He was subsequently further arrested for murder and remains in police custody.
DCI Gary Holmes, of the Metropolitan Police’s Homicide and Major Crime Command, said: “This is a tragic incident and our sympathies are with the loved ones and friends of the victim.”
Anyone who was in the area from Sunday night to Monday morning is urged to contact the police, he added.
“It could prove vital to our ongoing enquiry.”
No other people are being sought in connection with the investigation and enquiries continue, the police said.
