Tabletops buzzing with fun

Underhive Games Ltd is a newly opened, family-run shop, which sells a wide variety of award-winning board games that are aimed at anyone aged from two-99 years.

Located at the entrance of Newport Arcade, here you’ll find a broad range of tabletop games, ranging from classic style Dungeons and Dragons and card games to innovative children’s puzzles and games to help them learn and develop.

Run and owned by Andy and Gemma Beese, the couple wanted to create a unique space where not only they could sell unusual and interesting games, but also be a communal hub where all ages are welcome to enjoy the social aspect of gaming.

“We specialise in tabletop hobby games covering popular miniature war games, top-quality board games for adults and children, and also social hobby experiences that can be enjoyed by the whole family,” said owner Andy Beese.

“Our aim is to bring these fun and fulfilling hobbies to the people of Newport.We want to get people of all ages socialising, learning and having fun together.

“Everyone knows Cluedo, Twister and Trivial Pursuit, these are classic games that anyone can play, but, if you’re looking for something a little more adventurous, where you have to think on your feet and make hard decisions and choices that could change the game, then we’re the place for you!

“We have a wide range of games from all over the world, from beginner level up to highly advanced.

“Not only can you learn to master these games and fall in love with them,
some of them let you compete in tournaments, where you get to personalise the playing pieces!

“Don’t worry if you’ve never painted miniatures before, we hold Painting Masterclasses every fortnight and scenery classes once a month.

“We also put on events in store and have weekly groups set up for children, teens, adults and the elderly, such as our senior citizen group every Wednesday, where for £5.50 they can play a game and enjoy a cup of tea or coffee and a sandwich.

“Sunday morning is set out as an Autism friendly event between 10am and 12pm – we try to be as inclusive as possible.”
You can come in and play your trading card games and use their tables for free, however to use one of the tester games it will be £3 per person for an hour and a half – for those 12 and under they have a sibling discount of £1.50.

Underhive Games Ltd is open five days a week from Wednesday to Sunday, and on the last Thursday of every month (except December) why not pop along to the monthly games night? Meet up at 18.30pm in Tiny Rebel Brewery opposite the store before wombling over to start the fun! There’s space for 12 at the table, but if you don’t mind a classic “on the floor” game then there’s scope for a whole lot more!
