Landlord and head chef of the Ship Inn, Jamie Southall, has created a full vegetarian and vegan menu, which offers six tempting starters and six wholesome mains.

“Diners are more aware of what they’re eating, especially those with dietary requirements” Jamie told Voice.

“We’ve listened to our customers and tried our best to offer something for all. The most common complaint is that venues will only have one or two options for them, so we decided to create a full vegetarian and vegan menu with 12 delicious meals to choose from.

“Since we’ve introduced this menu in February, the response and feedback has been really positive – hopefully in the future, these options will feature on the main menu with everything else, but for ease and piece of mind for our customers, so they don’t have to ask any questions and simply just pick what they want to eat, it will stay as a separate menu for the time being.”

Options from Jamie’s new menu includes starters of homemade soup of the day, pan fried garlic mushrooms crostini with or without cream, chefs own tomato and basil arancini (a Voice favourite), and halloumi fries with garlic mayonnaise.

Mains on the menu include a trio of Glamorgan sausages in onion gravy, a butternut squash and green bean Thai curry, a Mediterranean vegetable tart with onion chutney and a gourmet Bangkok burger in a lightly toasted bun.

All meals are individually priced and won’t break the bank, with starts from £3.95 and from £8.95 for a main course.

“As you can see from the dishes created, we’ve kept the theme with the rest of our menu as the thought process behind creating the menu was “why can’t vegetarians and vegans enjoy great-tasting pub grub too?” – if they want a curry or burger, they can,” added Jamie.

So, if you’re looking for a wonderful dining destination that caters for all, then why not take a trip to The Ship of Caerleon this March and set sail on journey of tastes from around the world.
