The Face Boss celebrated its first-year anniversary on May 12 and to commemorate this milestone, it is our Beauty and Hair Studio of the Month.

Voice was there when owner Megan Goodchild first opened the doors of Face Boss to the public last May. We caught up with the young businesswoman recently to find out what’s been happening since we last visited.

“It’s been absolutely manic twelve months,” Megan told Voice.

“I genuinely had no idea how well the business was going to explode.

“It’s crazy to think I started out on my own a year ago and I now currently employ two staff (junior make-up artist Mollie and senior make-up artist Megan – yes, two Megans!), plus it was my intention to rent out a hairdresser’s chair and beauty room to very-highly skilled and like-minded people. Fortunately for me I’ve found the professionals to make The Face boss complete, with Senior Stylist Neely Price and Beauty Therapist Emily Davies.

“When I say the business exploded, it literally did, as I went from a few thousand followers across social media to upwards of 30,000+ - the make-up posts kind of went viral with likes and shares.

“Make-up appointments for a Thursday, Friday and Saturday are fully booked at least three weeks in advance, which is incredible feat for such a new business and is one of the reasons why I’m currently studying at Coleg Gwent to qualify to teach make-up.

“My own lashes line is doing incredibly well too, and I’ve got some fabulous new styles arriving in store very soon for the summer.

“The latest make-up trends people ask for are freckles, glossy skin with the appearance of wearing no make-up – a really stripped back look for summer.

“In the not too distant future I’ll be fully trained and qualified to teach, which will be a new service I’ll be offering at my studio here in Griffithstown.”

It’s been an amazing first year for Megan, as she won a V Award last October as Make-Up Artist of the Year and also winning Young Business Owner of the Year at the Welsh Inspiration Awards.

Finding the right people for The Face Boss team was not an easy thing for Megan to do, but thankfully she did with Neely and Emily.

Neely is a senior stylist with more than 15 years’ experience, specialising in all aspects of hairdressing from cutting and colouring to prom and up dos. Neely uses the very best hair care products that the industry has to offer including Matrix and Olaplex. Popular trends, such as balayage start from £60 and a big bouncy blow dry from £30. Neely is by appointment only and offers a late evening every Thursday.

Beauty Therapist Emily has 7 years’ experience within the beauty sector on offers a multitude of nonsurgical treatments at The Face Boss Studio, with he recent addition of dermaplaning – an exfoliating treatment that will remove peach fuzz and dead skin with the tiny scrape of a scalpel – from £38 per session.  Emily offer very flexible hours throughout every day of the week and is by appointment only.

Makeup with Megan and her team of artists is priced from £35 with no lashes, £40 with basic lashes, and £45 with Boss lashes. Complete bridal packages start from £300, with prom packages from £80. Call for more details.

The Face Boss has a huge following online, with many of its photos having thousands of likes and shares, showing the world what this talented young team is capable of.
