Voice’s Family Run Business of the month was first established 1978 by John and Yvonne Spencer soon after to be joined by their three grown up sons.

The Family Business specialised in manufacturing and restoring furniture to a high standard and eventually moved in to other areas of soft furnishings. For those of you who may remember, Spencers had a family store on Corporation Road and also had a display window within Wildings Department Store in Newport City Centre.

In 2005 the business was taken over by their son David and his wife Debbie. They relocated to Unit 1 at Bough Spring Farm (just look for the farm shop sign a few yards down the road from The Gate at Llanfrechfa).

From their Unit workshop, David and Debbie have continued to offer a specialist service of high quality curtains blinds and upholstery. The couple are well-known for their excellent customer service and are very proud of their referral business, saying “many of our customers recommend us to their family and friends and we are very lucky to have generations of loyal customers”.

“We know it sounds cliché, but we genuinely care about each curtain and blind and upholstered piece that we make, with our attention to detail and quality being paramount. This is what we feel separates us from our competitors and why our customers make return visits for our services.”

Within their showroom you’ll find a wide range of beautiful and high-quality fabrics that are available in a variety of colours and patterns and are updated seasonally. The couple also offer their advice in colour matching to the scheme of your home. Curtain brand fabrics that people may recognise include Bill Beaumont, Clarke & Clarke, Warwick, Blendworth, Chatsworth, and Porter and Stone.

A variety of blinds, including verticals, duo rollers, and venetians can be custom made to your specification with a choice of remote-control options available too.

“You’d be surprised at how a new pair of curtains or blinds can really transform a room with very little other decoration needed,” Debbie tells Voice. “People often show us pictures of rooms within their homes and ask us what would match or compliment the furniture they already have. Through our years of experience, we can show them many alternatives of what may work, but ultimately, it all comes down to individual style and tastes.”

The couple offer a measuring and fitting service as part of their bespoke service so why not pop along to the showroom and experience their service for yourselves.
