The Riverfront is set to host a Halloween night to remember on Thursday 31 October at 7.30pm. Star of musicals (insert) and BBC’s ‘Pitch Battle’ Kit Orton brings his swing band The FlyBoys to his hometown for an epic Stranger Things themed night of swing entitled Stranger Swings.

Kit was born in Newport and although he went to school in Monmouth he feels his proper education, at least in the world of theatre, was realised in Newport and Cwmbran. From the age of 15 he regularly attended We Are What We Are Theatre Company, performing several shows at the Congress and Dolman Theatres. At the age of 18 Kit won a place at the prestigious Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester where he studied Opera. From there he journeyed south to London to attend another renowned music school, The Royal Academy of Music, gaining a Postgraduate Diploma in Musical Theatre. His professional career has seen him perform in shows such as 'Spamalot' on London's West End, take the title role in 'TOM' for Wales based theatre company Theatr na nÓg, and abroad to Germany to star in Jason Robert Brown's 'Songs For A New World' - to name but a few.

As a writer and composer he has gone on to write six musicals, four plays, numerous comedy cabarets and produce his own creations such as The FlyBoys and Miami Voice. His Welsh musical 'My Land's Shore' (co-written with Robert Gould) has gained a battalion of fans across the globe and received its' premiere production in London in 2016 before travelling to Merthyr Tydfil for a sell-out run.

‘I can't wait to show Newport what I've been up to for the last few years. We had the option of taking this show anywhere in the country but I really wanted to start it here in Newport. This is where my love of music and performing was nurtured so it feels right to bring Stranger Swings to The Riverfront. The fact it falls on Halloween was a happy coincidence so we have themed our show accordingly. Stranger Swings was the perfect title as it's exactly what we do... we take modern songs and we turn them on their heads, introducing them to a new world, well, a new genre of music!’

The FlyBoys will blow you away with their unique take on big band swing tunes. In a fusion of unforgettable showmanship and delicious four part harmony, these four masters of mashup will whisk you back to the golden age of swing but with a spectacular twist! Since their inception, The FlyBoys have done some truly memorable things. The group received critical acclaim on the hit BBC TV show, “Pitch Battle” with celebrity judges Kelis, Chaka Kahn and Gareth Malone, making it all the way to the final.

Last year The FlyBoys performed a 27 night run at the world-famous Edinburgh Festival Fringe. They have also supported multi-platinum pop sensation, Sir Cliff Richard, on his recent tours, performing at prestigious venues such as The Royal Albert Hall. They have performed with both the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra and The Glenn Miller Orchestra in the USA.

The FlyBoys ask audiences to imagine a night where Pharrell Williams croons with Judy Garland, Ricky Martin scats with Cab Calloway, and Maroon 5 groove with Ella Fitzgerald. It's like Sinatra started a band with Bruno Mars! Will any of the music be Halloween / Stranger Things inspired?

An unforgettable fusion of vintage and modern music delivered in delicious four part harmony. Get yourself along to The Riverfront and hear swing re-imagined, with an incredibly unique twist for this Halloween – fancy dress is strongly encouraged and there will be prizes for the best costumes. Go wild and channel your favourite characters be that Eleven, Chief Hopper or Joyce Byers or if you fancy more traditional Halloween attire, that is also acceptable.

Ticket prices for Stranger Swings are £20 and are available from The Riverfront Box Office or website - https://tickets.newportlive.co.uk/en-GB/shows/the%20flyboys%20-%20stranger%20swings/events
