Robins Nursery of Chepstow is excited to announce that it’s undergoing a refurbishment to offer its children so much more, making it Voice Education Establishment of the Month. The main building is being extended, to make room for a 24 place, purpose-built baby suite, which is due to open next year.

Robins is part of the Dean Close Nurseries group that has five nurseries in total, with a sister nursery, Teddies in Newport.

New manager, Hayley, was previously the manager of Teddies, but transferred in January of this year. Hayley’s years of experience and motivation has led to enhanced staff training and expectation, focusing on child interaction and engagement.

Throughout the course of the past 12 months, Hayley has employed new experienced room leaders who share her vision to make Robins the very best that it can be. Staff attend regular training provided by Monmouthshire EAS and have recently been recognised for all of their hard work and by implementing everything that they have learnt on the courses, especially observations and planning in the pre-school room.

Its popular sensory garden has also been awarded £10,000 from the capital funding grant, where the money will be spent on eco-friendly furniture and new playing apparatus, as all the children who attend Robins enjoy spending time outdoors, no matter the weather! A firm favourite is the outdoor classroom and growing veg in the self-contained allotment. The children also enjoy watching the horse-racing at Chepstow racecourse from the garden.

As well as the outside having a bit of a make-over, Robins has recently invested in new resources and natural furniture throughout the nursery too, recognising the importance of natural resources, sensory play, loose parts and block play, with the aim to be a plastic-free nursery in the not too distant future. If that wasn’t enough great news, the nursery is proud to announce that they have been awarded the Healthy and Sustainable Preschool Scheme national award, with its three-week menu offering a healthy and balanced diet to meet the children’s needs.

To monitor your child’s progress of their time spent at the nursery, Robins use an online system where weekly uploads of observation of what the children have been up to are made available to parents.

Not only is this a wonderful nursery for the children, Robins additionally has strong links with the community, helping at the local playgroup and recently taking part in the village Scarecrow trail.

The Preschool visits a local care home each week, and manager Hayley and her team are hoping to start swimming lessons and forest school clubs in the near future as a result of utilising one of its other schools, Dean Close St John’s on the Hill.

Call for more information, and don’t forget, Robins is part of the Childcare offer and educational hours for children aged three for up to 30 hours. Visit the website for more information.
