The Lower New Inn officially reopened its doors on Thursday, November 23 and is the second venture for new landlords DayneWatkins and Curtis Lewis, who already own Butterflies Bar and Kitchen in Blaenavon.

This old coaching inn has had a fresh lick of paint and a refurb, and has been tastefully decorated, complimenting the original features, as it has been shut since May this year. “The response to us reopening has been fantastic,” Dayne told Voice.

“We hadn’t officially opened our doors yet our Christmas Day sold out within an hour after advertising it on social media – it’s been crazy. There are still a few places left for our New Year’s dinner though, which is priced at £35 for four courses.

“Obviously people will compare The Lower New Inn to Butterflies, but we want this new venue to be different. Where’s the fun of owning two venues that are the same? The menu will have a gastro-pub feel to it, with a strong focus on 28-day matured steaks,Welsh lamb and of course fresh produce from local suppliers. I’m guessing the menu will change seasonally, but obviously we’ll listen to the needs of the local community to see what they want or would like to see on the menu.

“There’ll be a wide range of starters, options from the grill, fish and vegetarian options, as well as homemade desserts to tempt people.

“We’ll be open for lunch and dinner six days a week and offering a traditional roast every Sunday. At the bar you’ll find all your favourite tipples and usual suspects, and we’ll be featuring a variety of guest ales weekly.

“You can also enjoy a cup of freshly ground coffee, and throughout December we’ll be offering festive inspired treats such as a gingerbread latte.

We’ve got a great team assembled here and hopefully the public will pop in to see what we can offer. There’s also secluded beer garden out the back, great for dining al fresco during the warmer months –there’s lots to look forward to in the coming months. If you’re in the area, pop in and say hi, we look forward to welcoming through our doors out of the cold to warm up next to our real log fire.

“Merry Christmas to all and a Happy New Year!”
